~Christmas in the Kitchen~

snowtableA

In the meadow we will build a snowman.

Instead of ribbons I’m using raffia, for gift wrapping, this year.  I didn’t have enough in my supply, so I needed to stop by Michael’s, last week.

I saw the snowman, in October, when he was first placed on the shelves at the front of the store.  It was love at first sight, but I resisted the temptation to invite him home.

I saw the snowman again, as I was checking out with my raffia and a couple of other things, because we all know you can’t pop in at Michael’s for just one thing!

He was sitting on the floor, wearing his original tag.  I spied a 50% off sign.  With hope in my heart, I asked if he was included in the sale. Yes, he was.  Without hesitation, I scooped him up and brought him home, where he found a new home on the little chest, at the end of the kitchen island.  It was meant to be!

Breakfast for Two

snowtable16A1

Dinner plate, Lenox Holiday, mug, Lenox Holiday Tartan, salad plate, Certified International Florentine.  The napkin is vintage. Stemware is Mikasa.

I purchased four of the snowman stockings when I stopped at Michael’s to pick up the raffia.  The placemats are about 20 years old, a gift from eldest daughter.  I have them turned on the reverse side, for this setting. There is a blue house on the top side.

The houses on top of the refrigerator and two snow figures are Jim Shore~Heartwood Creek.

The snow figures and winter scenes will remain in the kitchen and breakfast room through February.

Christmas morning brunch will be served from the kitchen island.  I’m still working on the menu that will include fresh fruit and veggies, bagels, biscuits and a casserole, among other things.

Pat, your tablescape is precious! Love the stockings to hold the silverware. I see you & I both have a weakness for Dept 56 Snow Village. Well, I wish mine was just Snow Village but, North Pole got me too. I didn't put mine out this year so thank you for letting me gaze at yours. And the snowman is ADORABLE!!!! 50% off makes him even more so! Thanks for sharing.

What a great story about the snowman--he found a loving home, and a beautiful one. I so want to get out my Dept 56 houses, but there's a bio-hazard in the way (just my junk). If only I could leap over it and pull a Jimmy Stewart from It's A Good Life...and spend a few hours in Dickens Village.

You always have the best photos! That Michael's snowman reminds me of one I have on my front porch. Had no idea that Lenox made a Tartan Holiday pattern, but it is gorgeous! Just went and looked at your Christmas on the Back Porch post, and your fireplace and dishes in that post are awesome. Like that sled too. Your cloche displays are pretty too.

Wsprsweetly Of Cottages said...

I LOVE that snowman. I bought large bells made of the same thing for the front porch. Three sets of them. I put new bows on this year but had I seen that snowman I would have bought him...how fortunate you were to get him at half off! Perhaps...just perhaps I should take a jaunt down to Michaels and see if they have one!
Your home looks so cozy and NOT cluttered like mine! LOL I OVERDO I'm afraid!
Thank you so much for your kind comment though.
I love your counter tops..

I have to ask..do you feel you need the dishwasher? I am wondering why I don't miss it. At first I thought I would..and thought.."YOU ARE KIDDING! NO DISHWASHER?" but I don't really miss it at all. Maybe it is just because it's the two of us and when the family comes they all jump in and do the dishes....who knows.
I love your chandelier...sooo pretty! I am going back for a closer look! HOW I wish I had a better camera.

Pat,
What a charming, lovely home you have. I love your kitchen with the island and all the cloches. So warm and friendly, I feel I could just sit down and talk to you as a "old" friend. What a wonderful blog you have. I am especially happy to see your "blog w/o obligation" because I am a new blogger trying to find my way thru blogland while juggling my life. My life was complicated before blogging. Yes, I love visiting blogland, love meeting new friends, the inspiration, the creativity, the beauty and charm and warmth is like have zillions of friends down the block I can pop in on. Having said that, I am going a bit crazy figuring out how all you wonderful bloggers manage your time, if you ever sleep etc. I so love your thoughts on "w/o obligation" Perfect and I so agree. Tried to copy the code so I could put on my blog, but can't seem to do that and now I am off to my full time day job!
A very Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Big hugs cause I just feel I know you from the warmth and charm of your home.
