 Christmas Past...Branson Missouri

A road trip from earlier in the 21st Century.

The following photos are about 8 or 9 years old.  They were taken with a small film camera. This was several years before my introduction to digital.

Apologies for poor photo quality.

We’ve seen many shows, in Branson.  As of now, only two were during Christmas time.

Grand Palace Theatre

Once upon a time, the Grand Palace Theatre was across the street from the Grand Village Shops, where Kringles Christmas Shop is located.

We were entertained by the Radio City Rockettes, twice, while they were performing in Branson. The Rockettes left Branson a few years ago.  The theatre is now closed.  I wonder if there are plans to reopen.  It’s a beautiful building.

grand palaceC Just who is this couple!

The photo was taken about 4 years before I accepted and embraced my snow white hair.  Thanks to Paula Deen for giving me the courage.grand palaceE

The Rockette, on the right (eyes closed), looked so much like our niece.

If this photo had been taken during our digital era, we would have seen the closed eyes and tried for another.  I add it here because it shows the beautiful costumes and because of the story behind the photo.

grand palaceD

I’m spelling Xantiana’s name for a Rockette.

Photos were allowed before and after the show, but not during.

Moon River Theatre

It's the most wonderful time of the year
There'll be much mistltoeing
And hearts will be glowing
When loved ones are near
It's the most wonderful time of the year

Lyrics

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year~Andy Williams

Andy Williams We saw Andy Williams, approximately  9 years ago, at his Moon River Theatre, in Branson.  It was Andy’s first season back, after resting his voice for a year.

Our seats were center stage, about 6th row.

Andy made us feel right at home and encouraged photos, during the show.

We enjoyed singing along.  It was an absolutely wonderful evening, during “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”.

Andy, in his 80’s, is still performing in Branson.  He lives there about 7 months of the year, I believe.  Architectural Digest published an article, about his home, in Branson, Missouri, in December 1999.  A recent AD (December 2009) featured another of his homes, which is located in Palm Springs.

Click HERE for Andy Williams’ website.

Answer

gibsondishesA I was asked about the dishes, in the black cabinet, shown in Christmas Under Glass.  They are Gibson, Clair Murray Dinnerware, Boughs of Holly.  I purchased them at Old Time Pottery, several years ago.

As I prepare this post, it’s Friday December 4th.  The sun is shining and we have snow flurries; a beautiful morning in Northeast Missouri!

A Hearth Room Hint

Our hearth room is done in traditional red and green this year.  Plus a few other colors for good measure.

Don’t forget Rhoda’s Party, Thursday December 10th!

Dear Friends,

For the past week I’ve had this sort of respiratory thing that seems to be a super cold!

I’m moving at such a slow pace, getting things ready for Christmas and blogging, etc., I’m really aggravated at myself!

I miss you and I want to let you know, I’m not ignoring ya’ll.  I’m just feeling a tad like I’ve been hit by a Mack truck.

I hope to be back in good blogging form, soon.

Love, Pat

Who is spoiled rotten because she is hardly ever sick.

Oh Pat, so sorry you've got a bad cold, but girl, you sure put out a great post while sick! When I think of all the energy you used to put this great post together, well, I'm just exhausted.

Take care of yourself and don't overdo!

Oh I do hope you get over the bug and are feeling better soon. I have seen several tv specials from Branson and would love to see it in person. Your pictures are gorgeous and sounds like you had such a wonderful time. Thanks for sharing. Hugs, Marty

I'm picking up a cough today also. Pat, I think your white hair is simply gorgeous! My great-grandmother had white hair and it always looked snowy to me. I love it, but think I will be a salt and pepper like my mom, and actually, have a streak in one spot, so I might be a skunk woman! yikes!

Great mosaics. So sorry you are sick. Why does it always happen when a person has so much to do? I am way behind due to my leg - everyone says it is just going to take time! Christmas won't wait!!

I stopped by just long enough to respond to your post and I couldn't leave - impossible to stop scrolling down a little more...and more!!! Such goodies with every scroll!
The mosaic is just wonderful - makes me happy!
And all of your cloches are beautiful. Lovin' the hanging ones.

Get better fast.

Pat, I'm so sorry you haven't been feeling well. I hope you are much better very soon. Take good care of yourself because respiratory things demand it. Have you tried any of the cold teas? Breathe Easy Tea and Gypsy Cold Care seemed to really help me a few years ago when I had a bad case of flu.

Loved this post and all of your pretty photographs. Andy Williams is so much a part of Christmas past. I always loved his Christmas special when I was young. Branson seems like a wonderful place to visit.

Please get to feeling better. I may be forced to take a little break, too, due to not feeling well, too, and the fact that we have unexpected workmen coming to fix a situation in the house. I know how you feel.

Wishing you a speedy recovery and much, much love...

XO,

Sheila :-)

Hoping you are feeling well soon, dear Pat. Do what you need to do, but take care of yourself and find the time to rest.
I get inspiration from your lovely snow white hair. As soon as my kiddos reach high school, I may have the courage to go that route. I am so tired of the expense and frequency (every 5 weeks with my hair) of professional colouring. Since I am 80+% grey and white, it wouldn't take much to go natural.

Why do these things always hit us when we are at our busy time of year? Not fair.
Pat I collect Santas and thought I would have to clutch my chest and call 911 when I saw your mosaics. I would really go crazy in that store. How nice that they let you take photos. The big store here I went to wouldn't, not even for my blog.
Get well in time to enjoy some of the festivities.

Hope you feel better soon! Loved your "old" pictures. They reminded me of a trip to New York City I took with my hubby several years ago which included seeing The Rockettes. Thanks for your post. It sparked some wonderful memories of my own. Anita

That was a great post! A little of everything! I have seen the show at Radio City. Took 30 5th graders there on a class trip..railroad, then the subway, then walking through the city..so crowded..kids being pushed in a different direction by the crowds. It was a trip I will NEVER forget. I was traumatized, LOL!!
Never went back again, and I am a NYer!
I sure hope you feel better..having just recovered from pneumonia , I don't want you to get that!!
Rest up, Pat!

Hope you feel better soon.

So glad you got the courage to let go of teh unnatural and go with the natural. I cannot wait for the day I have the nerve. I am 39 and if I didnt color, I would be almost white headed. I can thnka my dad, who is gorgeous with his white head. I just want a few more years to look my age. My husband keeps telling me to give in, but I havent the courage yet. You are my mentor in going white though!

I hope you're feeling better soon, Pat! I've been terrible at blogging and reading blogs since September! Now that my sales are over (as of Sat.), I'm madly trying to make it look like Christmas around here. . . I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get sick! I've been exposed to a zillion germs by being in the sales. . . so far, so good!

Take care and get well! Dana
