~A Bench Makeover~

mondaymet

Each Monday, beautiful makeovers are found, all around the land of blog. For a list of those participating in this lovely event, stop by Susan’s Between Naps on the Porch.

SouthernHospThriftyTreasures_copy[2]

The total cost of the bench makeover was minimal. That qualifies it as a Thrifty Treasure. Stop by Rhoda’s for other thrifty treasures, every Monday.

I wanted to give this bench a different look, for quite awhile. I intended to paint it, not long after it was purchased, a few years ago.

Although I knew I wanted a different fabric, for the seat, I just couldn’t make a decision. At first, I thought I might use matelasse. I used this on side chairs and love the texture. However, in the end, I settled on linen. I found a linen blend, at Hancock Fabrics. It isn’t upholstery fabric and not 100% linen, but I believe it will work for this bench. The price was perfect, marked at 50% off the original.

I bought two different colors, to consider. I chose the lighter of the two, for the bench and stored the other for another project.

bench3a

The original finish, of the frame, was a sort of mottled bronze.

The gold fabric was left intact. If I want to change back, it will be as easy as removing a few staples.

Waterside Cottages

When we picked up the mail, upon returning from the lake, last week, I was excited to find my signed copy of Barbara Jacksier’s Waterside Cottages.

Waterside Cottages is a beautiful new book; a delightful collaboration between Barbara and photographer Dan Mayers.

I first learned about this book, while Barbara was working on it, about two years ago. I’ve eagerly watched the progress through her blog.

To find out more about Waterside Cottages please visit Barbara HERE.

Pat - Your bench looks wonderful. I am sure you will find many uses for it in your dining room. I haven't been to Hancock Fabrics in quite some time.
Did you stop by The Apple Wagon on your way back from the lake? We go back down the middle of the week and I want to stop and look for a few things. I don't have Molly to use as a reason but I am sure HD will be glad to stop. He loves visitng with all the people. Sometimes he is like the "Walmart Greeter" when we go places.
I think we could all enjoy a Sunday afternoon nap with this rain!

Take care.

Oh Pat, I do love your bench makeover. I looks very elegant along with your chair covers. Good job.

I'm Jonesing for that strawberry crush J made. I spent all morning outside gardening. The hateful job of pulling (digging) weeds. I am so thirsty right now. I guess I will have to settle for iced tea.

Your crepe myrtle photo is so much fun. I love what you did with the bubbles. Beautiful photo.

The book looks very nice. I am sure I would enjoy the book very much. I will try to get over to Barbara's b;og.

My grands all went home yesterday. Boy do I have lots to do. LAUNDRY!!!! I am enjoying some time visiting my dear friends. That would be you Pat.

Have a happy day.

Pat, love the bench. It's perfectly lovely, as is just about every project you undertake.

I was lucky enough to visit with Kat from Just a Beach Kat this past weekend and your name came up. We're both huge fans of your many tablesettings and spent a bit of time discussing the beauty you can create on a tabletop. You are amazing at this sort of thing! :)

Pat,

I just adore your bench redo. I have been wanting to something similar and paint an initial or something of the sort on it as well. I thinhk your bench looks precious in your dining room.
I am headed to check out that book. Looks like something right up my alley!
Regarding the cheese, as mentioned on my blog...I so hate that about your american sharp and the place closing, that's terrible. I can understand how you feel. If you ever get the opportunity, I highly suggest you order a ball of edam from the university of mississippi. They make it on campus and sell it online. They have differnt varities (though not the american sharp) but the edam is unlike anything I have ever tried. I think you would live it. I also have ordered the baby swiss from them and had it shipped-yum! Email me if you cannot find it online and I will send you the link.
Have a wonderful day, my friend!
